XWord Info is 18

Robot Birthday
Even software and hardware get to celebrate birthdays

As of September 7, XWord Info is old enough to vote. In much of Canada, it can finally have its first taste of alcohol. On the Internet, it provides data on each new crossword and Variety puzzle.

I celebrated by opening the Official Merch Store, and by upgrading to faster web servers. Pages should load quickly, and complicated Finder searches should return faster results.

Eighteen years is a long time for a website. So many people helped along the way — Jeff Chen, David Steinberg, Barbara Cherington, Flip Koski, Andrea Carla Michaels, David Balton & Jane Stewart, Joanne Villafane, Brian Cimmet & Ryan Hecht, and too many more to name check.

Thanks also to everyone who took the time to report bugs, and I especially want to thank my Angel subscribers. You truly are angelic. The site would not exist without you.

  1. Hi Jim — I just saw this and wanted to say for the record how much I LOVE and TREASURE XWordInfo. For the past five or six years or so I have spent countless hours on the site — way too many for my own good. I am a constructor of sorts and I use it (the Finder function) to make all my puzzles and, more recently, to analyze my themeless puzzles to see if they are up to snuff (so far they haven’t been but hope springs eternal). I’ve also started doing the acrostics on here and really enjoy those. And I use it as a reference in tons of other ways almost every day. Honestly, life just would not be the same for me without XWordInfo. I miss Jeff Chen’s great commentary but I still get so, so much out of the site without it. I’m so glad you decided not to take it down. So I just want to thank you so much for creating and maintaining the site for all these years — I’m sure it is a massive amount of work and I honestly don’t know how you do it. It’s such a great site, and I wanted you to know how grateful I am that you do it. So thanks and all the best and I hope XWordInfo is around for many years to come! Brad Wiegmann
